Smash

Evidence that crime does pay. A few years back I knicked this from my friend. A year or so later, when we moved in together, he still had his copy. I checked that I had "mine" and I did. Huh?

Turns out after I pinched his, he stole another unfortunate friend's copy. Then it turned out that I had in fact stolen someone else's, not his and his turned up as well. So now, we have 3 copies of Smash, having only purchased one. AND I hardly ever listen to it anyway.

Definite Article

A fine Eddie Izzard stand up performance, and the first I ever saw. Reminds me of about 7 of us crammed into a tiny room at uni watching and loving it.

Hilarious stuff.

This reminds me of being visited at uni by a friend, who got to witness my first ever 2 day hangover. It was after my 21st birthday and I'd thrown up on a bike after drinking a horrible mucky pint that included coffee.

We sat in all weekend playing computer games and eating random crap from the One Stop Shop.

The highlight being Yorkshire puddings stuffed with Smash and salt and vinegar crisps on a bed of baked beans. If I wasn't sick before...

Clifford

This reminds me of a man that I wish was still with us.

Words from me can't do him justice, but I can say, on a selfish level, that I wish I had had the opportunity to get to know him better and the short time I got to spend with him was one of the best times of my life.

A Boy Named Goo

Quite a contrast to the last post. This reminds me of the awful and short-lived "band" that I was in over a summer and a bit.

We had all the stuff, instruments, a garage to play in, the ability to write (what sounded like) reasonable stuff, but we couldn't play any of the instruments for shit. We managed about 2 half-assed covers from this album, and that's about it.

A little bit of a hindrance some might say. Not why the band split up though - that was definitely down to musical differences.

Rage Against The Machine

Great album, great band, my favorite name for a band ever, my favorite album cover ever. Just awesome.

This reminds me of working part-time in a wine shop and getting sick of the God awful music we had to play. So me and a colleague provided Rage with our own CD player.

Well worth it, especially for the odd scowling OAP.

World Cup '98

This was the first football (soccer) game I ever got into.

It reminds me of that magical half hour before school started, and that time Erik Mykland scored an overhead kick from the halfway line against me. Ridiculous.

It also makes me think of how little progress there has been made in the last 11 years in terms of gameplay. Sure, games look a hell of a lot better now, and there's millions of new options, but my players still do stupid things ALL the time.

Bring It On

This reminds me of the "2nd watch effect". Sometimes you have to see a movie twice to get your true opinion on it.

It happened with this, it happened with Super Troopers and it happened with Futurama: Bender's Game, and not always in a good way.

But Bring It On is great.

Combining two of my favorite things; History and zombies. Great book and reminds me of receiving great presents.

My first day at uni this was on TV. I was a day later than everyone else and no-one was around. So I unpacked whilst watching this.

Ahh, the summer of the greatest job I ever had. A summer job gardening in central London.

Doesn't sound great, but it was. Either digging up stuff or, if it rained, playing darts.

And the pay was surprisingly good. Everyone's a winner.

Anyway, the Chili Peppers and Nelly seemed to be on infinite repeat that summer.

Presidents Of The United States

To quote 'Shaun of the Dead', "That was the second album I ever bought!"

It's true. And it reminds me of the day I went to a university open day. A university that, as it turned out, was far beyond my reach, but this was a glorius time when optimism still existed in my brain.

And this album is still great.

Super Troopers

This is one of my favorite movies, but the things it reminds me of are mundane.

Firstly, sleeping. And secondly, maple syrup. I love syrup.

Cool Runnings

I put this in mainly because of the bad-ass snow today.

This movie moved me CLOSE to tears. No other has managed that, so kudos to Candy and the boys.

Super Mario Kart

Loads of memories attached to this one, but perhaps favorite amongst them is the pathetic state we left the Mario Kart chair in when abandoning our 3rd year flat.

Held up by a pencil. Smooth.
